Very much in keeping with Pontiac’s original performance-minded intent, it’s original YS code 389 cubic inch V8 sits underneath the hood, its power output amplified by the trio of 2-barrel carbs sitting on top -GM’s revolutionary Tri-Power configuration which is also factory correct for this car. Sounding very healthy and pulling strong, the engine mates with a Muncie M21 4-speed transmission for a great, “hands on” driving experience (the original TH400 is available as well). In back, the 3.23 Safe-T-Track limited slip rear end strikes a great balance – providing admirable off the line acceleration with reasonably low highway speed RPMs that would be completely out of the reach of more drastically equipped muscle cars. Outfitted with power brakes and power steering, this is an easy-driving, open air classic that you’ll actually look forward to getting behind the wheel of, and while it comes with the original Rally I’s mounted with Firestone Redlines, it sits on a set of 15″ Cragar rims outfitted with BF Goodrich T/A radials that still show nearly all of their tread.
