What makes these cars legendary is their feeling on the road. The 1.8-liter motor is rev happy, and the twin SU carburetors have plenty of a zest. There was plenty invested in the engine bay. Still, later down the road when it comes time to service the motor, it was a staple in enough British cars that parts and upgrades are readily available and affordable. What really helps keep this engine stay in its sweet spot of the powerband the best is the control offered by the four-speed overdrive transmission. This spirited drivetrain is enhanced with the nimble rack & pinion steering and front disc brakes. All of these features combined makes this roadster feel connected to the driver that’s why so many of these MGBs end up with a nickname.
