1965 Mustang Convertible 289 C-Code automatic convertible. This car was built in San Jose California in June of 1965 and spent most of its life in Albuquerque New Mexico. I have owned it for 6 years and have always kept it in a garage and only driven it on sunny days. This car gets a ton of attention. People are always stopping me to talk about it. Everyone — everyone has a Mustang story and you will hear them driving this car. Interior: The car has a factory pony interior with the correct color combination, gauges and dashboard trim. Notice the brown patina in the running horses on the seats – this is because they are original and have darkened with age. Steering wheel is original as is the radio. It has original AC that mechanically works, however it needs a charge. I have not had it charged because I never have driven this car with the top up. The car has a factory rallye pak. The tach and clock do not always work though. Front seat belts are original and still have the factory tag on the belt. There appears to be a missing notch in the steering wheel. This is not a missing piece. The factory plastic has shrunk with age. Exterior: Car is silver blue metallic. Has the spoke style hub caps. The top is automatic and it is not the original fabric — it is in great shape (its white) and operates as expected. The top is only up when I store the car for winter. Chrome bumpers are not perfect but look good. They polish up nicely bit have some small pitting. Mechanical: The 289 V8 2 barrel starts and runs fine. The car shifts nicely. It drives how you would expect a 51 year old car to drive – not like a modern car, but great for an old Mustang. I have taken this car on 300+ mile trips and have never had an issue. Has power steering and brakes. The odometer shows 82,XXX miles and I believe that this is original. I had the opportunity to speak to the original owner’s wife a few years back and her story of the car, as well as a mileage log I have for the car from the 70’s seems to confirm my belief. Known Issues: Speedometer squeaks and MPH is not correct. The needle jumps around. The mileage does turn over correctly though. The driver window needs some help running up and down correctly. Rear driver side window goes off its tracks 1970’s style aftermarket FM radio is stuck on a single station Carb could use a little tweaking. I am terrible at doing this so I left it as the last mechanic who worked on it did.
