Under the hood is the 289 cubic-inch V8. It’s nicely dressed with golden valve covers and air cleaner. While this is not an actual A-code, it does benefit from the tidy wires, hoses and extra bracing for this legendary V8 to also look great at the car show. More importantly for us drivers out there, this has the kind of good power that helped make the Mustang a legend. It has a nice exhaust that has just the right note to remind you there’s a V8 under the hood without waking the neighbors every time you take this one out on a warm summer night. And with features like the three-speed automatic and modern radial tires, it’s easy to hop in, fire up the V8, and go for drive anytime.
